In June 2025, I began my journey as a Master of Education student at Harvard University, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Walking through the gates of Harvard Yard for the first time last week, I was deeply aware that I did not arrive here alone. With every step, I carried with me the hopes and dreams of my students, the support of my communities, the love of my family, and the strength of my ancestors.
It was a profound moment, connecting my story with the long lineage of those who have come before me at this historic university.
The inscription on Baxter Gate—“Enter to Grow in Wisdom” and “Depart to Serve Better Thy Country and Thy Kind”—is a powerful reminder of Harvard’s enduring values rooted in service.
I am deeply grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given and for the beloved community I have found among my peers and professors at the Graduate School of Education. Together, drawing from our diverse histories and experiences, we have the privilege and responsibility to help shape the future of education for our hometowns and nations. My heart is full.
Thank you to our program leaders Irvin Scott, Alexis Redding, Francesca Purcell, Nicole Barone, Ph.D., and so many others who have made me feel so welcome here.
